Japan - Ceramics

In March of 2015 I had the pleasure of making my 3rd trip Japan to participate in Local Milk's Wabisabi retreat in the mountains of Kyushu Japan. In our 3 days of learning we went over food styling, participated in an tea ceremony, created an ikebana floral arrangement, and my favorite, spent a day exploring local ceramic making villages.

One of the villages we visited is famous for its Onta ware (named Onta Village near Hita in Kyushu) which is marked by the process in which they prepare the clay to make the pottery using no modern technology and the heritage of the 10 families in town that create these ceramics. These images are from Onta Village and another near by town.
